A Note From Sarah
Welcome to the first issue of The Road Ahead and thank you for being here from the very beginning.
I started this newsletter because the conversations I have with business owners and directors rarely make it into the usual business content. The real ones, about what it actually feels like to be at a crossroads, to know what you should do and not yet be doing it, to carry a successful business while quietly wondering what comes next. Those conversations deserve more space.
Every month, this is where I'll bring them.
You'll find practical insights, honest articles, real case studies and a curated list of what I'm reading and listening to, all focused on the moments that matter most in business and in leadership. No noise, no filler. Just clear thinking from someone who has been at the crossroads themselves and knows what it takes to move forward well.
I'm glad you're here. Let's see where the road ahead takes us.

Article:
The Crossroads Every Business Owner Will Reach
Here is something I know to be true: every business owner reaches a crossroads. It might arrive as a sale, a merger, a retirement, or a reinvention. It might come as a health scare, an unsolicited offer, or a quiet morning when the diary no longer holds the same pull it used to.
The crossroads takes different shapes. But it comes for everyone. What changes, what determines whether that moment becomes an opportunity or a crisis, is whether you were ready for it.
The reason most owners arrive unprepared is not carelessness. It is that the business consumes everything. And the advisors around them (accountants, solicitors, bank managers) are rightly focused on the present. Nobody is asking the questions that determine whether a transition succeeds or quietly falls apart.
This month's article introduces those questions. It maps the four crossroads most business owners face, sell, merge, retire, reinvent, and begins the conversation that this newsletter is built around: not if, but when. And whether you will be ready.
Next month: I tried to sell my business. It failed. I will tell you exactly why, and what I did differently the second time.
Question:
Question For Reflection
These questions won't all apply to you right now. Some will land immediately. Others will circle back later, at a different moment, with a different weight. The ones that make you uncomfortable are usually the ones worth returning to.
What are you actually walking towards - not away from?
Most owners know what they want to leave behind. Far fewer have a clear picture of what they're moving toward. The answer to this question shapes every decision that follows.
