May's Reflection

May Reflections, A Month of Movement, Meaning and the Magic of the Everyday

May brought radiant weather, packed calendars, and a powerful invitation to notice the extraordinary in the everyday, both in business and in life.

A Month Lit by Clarity and Connection

May was one of those months that asked a lot, and offered even more. Professionally, it was one of my busiest: onboarding new coaching clients, facilitating masterminds, drafting proposals, managing tax filings, participating in workshops, attending events, networking, board meetings, and conferences. Personally, it was equally full, with 310 kilometres walked across 31 days, an unexpected physical milestone that had me rethinking what rest might need to look like. (Next goal: less mileage, more stretching, and maybe, just maybe, a hobby called sleep.)

This month, I took part in Kate Rooney’s extraordinary everyday challenge. It reframed my focus, helping me see not just the to-dos, but the beauty in between: a sunlit morning walk, a meaningful conversation, a letter sent with intention.

Walking Towards Clarity

The walks gave me more than just fitness. Each morning, I laced up and stepped out for a walk, anywhere from 3 to 14km. But it wasn’t just about movement. It became a ritual of reflection. As I walked, I would check in with myself and asked myself a grounding question: What do I need today? Was I open to a podcast, an audiobook, or something more energising like motivating music?

These moments of intentional tuning-in often set the tone for the day ahead. Over the month, I logged 310km. Yes, really. My legs are tired, but my heart is full. And yes, we’re revisiting that goal for June. It became the most important step, not just for my health, but for my mindset.

Gestalt coaching reminded me why I do what I do.

On May 8th, I attended a one-day Gestalt workshop led by Pamela Fay at the RDS Members Club. The day was immersive and masterfully held, blending practical demonstration with deep professional reflection.

Gestalt is powerful, it sharpens our awareness and presence in ways that can transform a conversation, a moment, a decision. Surrounded by thoughtful coaches, I reconnected with the fundamentals of awareness and co-created transformation. I left re-inspired, with fresh insights for my own coaching practice.

My first PSA showcase talk was a career milestone.

On May 17th, I delivered “Dancing at the Crossroads”, my first PSA showcase talk, designed for business owners standing at a decision point: whether to Step Up and scale or Step Out and exit.

I did it. I stood up. I spoke. I may not remember all of it clearly, but I did what I set out to do, get back on the horse and speak in front of a group. That alone felt like a milestone worth celebrating.

The day was filled with insight and warmth. Andrew Dobbin’s workshop on networking was fresh and practical. Fellow speakers Norma O’Kelly and Michelle Mills-Porter left the room buzzing with inspiration. A special thank you to Aoife Gaffney, to my wonderful guests Nikolina Tijardovic and Marinda Malan, and to Nikolina, who won a book prize beautifully timed for her next chapter.

Writing to My Future Self

On May 25th, I participated in An Post’s Letter to My Future Self campaign. Writing to the version of me who’s done the work, faced the challenges, and chosen her next path, it was more emotional than I expected.

I often tell clients that change starts with one step. Sometimes, that step is a conversation. Sometimes it’s a coaching session. And sometimes, it’s a letter. Taking the time to write to a future version of myself was both quietly powerful and deeply clarifying.

Conversations and Conferences

On May 22nd, I attended the ACCA Conference, which opened with a warm welcome from Stephen Noonan, Head of ACCA Ireland. Eoin O’Reilly’s keynote on “The Accountant’s Role in the AI Revolution” was sharp, timely, and thought-provoking. It challenged us to rethink how AI is reshaping decision-making in our profession.

The day was full of energy, meaningful conversations, and high-quality speakers. Connecting with peers in person again was a welcome reminder of how energising professional community can be.

Mairead McGuinness’ talk at the RDS on May 29th, “Europe, What Lies Ahead,” added another layer of depth. She spoke about the power of presence, how listening, observing gestures, and tuning into tone are all part of meaningful negotiation. It was a reminder that clarity in dialogue often begins with how we show up, not just what we say.

Looking ahead

As I reflect on May, I’m gently reassessing what goals serve me best. Less mileage, more restorative movement. Adding stretching. Considering a new hobby called sleep. But more than anything, I’m continuing to ask the same daily question: What do I need today? The answer changes, but the asking, that’s the constant.

If you’re navigating a busy season or standing at your own crossroads, know this, you don’t have to do it alone. Whether through one-to-one coaching, mastermind support, or strategic consulting, there is always a next step. And sometimes, it begins with a walk.

The Walks, the Weather, the Wonder

And finally, May was a month of colour. Thanks again to Kate Rooney’s extraordinary everyday challenge, I saw each day through a different lens. The result? I noticed more. I appreciated more. I have shared some of these photos below.

As I often say to clients: clarity doesn’t just arrive. You create it, step by step, word by word, decision by decision.

Let’s keep turning clarity into action.

How to Choose the Right Coach (Because Not All Are Equal) - Part 3
By Sarah Daly April 17, 2025
I'm here to help you navigate this and highlight some key distinctions to ensure you find a coaching partnership that truly propels you forward. Let's dive into these last few crucial misconceptions.
By Sarah Daly April 9, 2025
I’m sitting here at 8 a.m. in a lovely coffee shop, enjoying my favourite mug of hot chocolate, a weekly treat I eagerly anticipate, while Christy Moore plays softly in the background. It's the 1st of May, and I sense this month's reflection might feel a bit different. April has been truly wonderful, so let’s dive in. The month began perfectly, with a refreshing week away in Faro, Portugal, accompanied by two amazing people: my partner Billy and his mother. We arrived to forecasts predicting a week of rain, yet none of us were discouraged. As it turned out, the predictions were entirely inaccurate, and instead, we enjoyed beautiful weather, excellent company, a peaceful hotel, access to a gym, and a pristine beach with a scenic boardwalk. It was a week filled with something we often overlook: time. Each morning, I woke early, either for gym sessions or an 11 km walk along the stunning beach, accompanied by music, podcasts, or simply my own thoughts. Afternoons were spent quietly reading, and evenings brought delightful dinners and laughter-filled card games. It was a rare gem of a holiday, allowing me to disconnect completely and recharge quickly, despite what the cost might imply (thank you, VHI!). Easter also brought a lovely, peaceful weekend at home. It was a time of quiet simplicity: slow mornings, good food, and precious moments. Taking time to pause and simply be, felt like a continuation of the calm I had experienced on holiday, and it reminded me again of the importance of creating space to recharge and reconnect. Returning energised from our holiday, I was thrilled to begin working with new clients. It's fascinating how often it takes a significant event, (a shock, loss, or tragedy,) for people to pause and reconsider their paths. They ask powerful questions: Do I want to be here, doing this same thing, next year? Can I spend more time with family, focus more on health, or grow a business less dependent on me? Or perhaps simply acknowledging they can't carry their burdens alone any longer. This is exactly the kind of space I aim to create through my services, whether it’s the deep, personalised work of 1:1 Coaching (Clarity & Confidence), the collective wisdom shared in the Step Up Business Mastermind, or the strategic clarity provided through my consulting services like the Success Partnership, Financial Fortitude sessions, or Review & Roadmap intensives. I feel incredibly privileged to support inspiring clients through coaching and consulting. This month, one particularly challenging session stood out: a client who was finding delegation exceptionally difficult, preventing him from achieving his goal of working fewer hours. After a deep, reflective conversation exploring what successful delegation would look like, his entire demeanour shifted, energy returned, clarity emerged, and a plan began forming. I’m excited to see his progress next month. Listening and presence are everything in coaching. Sometimes, when clients articulate their thoughts aloud, they discover insights they hadn't realised existed. Other times, discomfort surfaces, signalling the need for deeper exploration. Life has taught me its precious and fleeting nature, often through tough experiences. Years of relentless work and eventual burnout taught me the vital importance of delegation, trust, and building a strong team. Achieving my business goals was rewarding, yet true satisfaction came from deeper connections and meaningful experiences. When I sold my business, I was supported by 24 incredible coaches, something for which I'll always be profoundly grateful. But that's a story for another reflection. Another milestone this April was delivering my first speaker talk at Ignite. Two lessons stood out immediately: first, always take photos! Second, not everyone will always engage fully with your message, and that's perfectly fine. Embracing feedback, even when challenging, offers invaluable growth opportunities. . Anyone who knows me understands that I value feedback, including constructive criticism, as it’s a crucial part of growth and confidence-building. The PSA (Professional Speaking Association) event was another monthly highlight. Denise McGarry joined as my guest, thoroughly enjoying an inspiring morning featuring three exceptional keynote speakers ( Paul Dornan, Peter Turley and Andrew Dobbin ) . The room was packed, the energy electric, and as always, I learned so much. Huge credit to the organising team for an outstanding event. Inspired, I've stepped further outside my comfort zone by signing up for my own showcase speech in May. It’s yet another reminder that personal development is a continuous journey, something I deeply champion for my clients too. If you'd like to attend as a guest, do let me know, I’d be delighted to invite you. To beautifully conclude the month, my partner quietly organised a dinner with an old college friend and his wife, visiting from the US. It was a special evening filled with warmth, laughter, and meaningful conversations. Time flew by, filled with joyful reminiscences and heartfelt exchanges. We parted with hugs, plans to reconnect, and gratitude for the new memories made. I must also thank Kate Rooney , for her monthly LinkedIn challenges. For April, I committed to walking, and despite not initially setting a specific target, I'm proud to share I achieved 264,925 steps, covering 211 km, averaging 7 km a day. For May, my goal is 220 km, alongside stretching every evening, habit-building at its finest! Reflecting on April, I feel incredibly fortunate and deeply grateful for the wonderful people in my life, near and far, who enrich my days. Life is indeed precious, our time limited and invaluable, and it's the connections we nurture that truly make our journey extraordinary. If you’re reading this and find yourself yearning for more clarity, connection, or growth in your life or business, know that you don’t have to do it alone. There’s immense power in stepping into spaces of support, strategy, and community, and it would be my privilege to walk that journey with you. Here’s to making every moment count. _______________________________
